Operation Angel
information
Operation Angel is a program designed to assist individuals struggling with addiction by providing them with the help they need. This initiative marks a shift from traditional law enforcement approaches to drug addiction, focusing instead on support and recovery.
The objective of Operation Angel is to reduce overdose deaths, expand access to treatment, reduce crime, and build trust between law enforcement and the community. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with community partners, offers a non-arrest diversion program, allowing individuals to seek help without fear of legal consequences. Those suffering from substance abuse disorders can walk into any sheriff's office substation or police department in Tangipahoa Parish, surrender any drugs or paraphernalia, and receive free transportation to a treatment facility. Women will be taken to Lynhaven Retreat in Hammond, and men will be taken to the Giving Hope Retreat Center in Lacombe. Both facilities are operated by the New Orleans Mission.
Participants in Operation Angel must be 18 years or older and committed to starting a life of recovery. This program is available at no charge. If you need assistance after normal business hours, dial 9-1-1 to be connected to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
