Rape Aggression Defense System
information
The Rape Aggression Defense System (R.A.D.) is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. This comprehensive, women-only course starts with awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and risk avoidance, progressing to hands-on defense training.
A primary goal of R.A.D. is to heighten a woman's level of awareness without building a false sense of security. By educating and training women to be more aware of their surroundings, the program helps them recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations. Taught by nationally certified R.A.D. instructors, the course includes a workbook/reference manual that outlines the entire Physical Defense Program, supporting continuous personal growth and offering a free lifetime return and practice policy for graduates.
The program focuses on the philosophy of choices, awareness, and preparation through education and training. The curriculum includes:
- Awareness and prevention
- Sexual assault definitions
- Patterns of encounter
- The decision to resist
- Basic principles of self-defense
- Self-empowerment
- Defensive mindset
- Management of the sexually assaulted survivor
- Realistic simulation training session
Through these sessions, women learn to strengthen their innate survival techniques, making their options more accessible and effective. The program teaches that no single decision is right for all women in all situations, emphasizing choices and options. Alternatives such as compliance and flight are also discussed to ensure survivability.
